| Families are often encouraged to use one approach to intervention for communication and learning for children with ASD. They can feel guilty and stressed about doing the "right thing." When presented with a balanced array of options and information about strengths and weaknesses of various approaches for fostering certain skills, parents may consider using multiple approaches together. We will look at case studies of two children under 3 years using combinations with modifications of several approaches. Videotape examples of parents and therapists using adaptations of structured teaching and visual supports (TEACCH), play and following the child's lead (Floortime) and use of AAC and visual supports for choices, schedules, play, and storybook reading will be shown. |
